Object detail

Description
Spelter (EPNS) candlestick with detachable snuffer. This was made around 1904. Spelter is a zinc alloy, and was commonly used in the 19th century to make cheap cast articles resemble bronze such as this candlestick. Spelter is relatively soft and breaks easily. It has a very ornate design with delicate swirl patterns around the base of the candlestick, and where the candle is held.
