Description
This is the skeleton of a little bush moa, species Anomalopteryx didiformis.
The little bush moa is now extinct. The little bush moa was a small flightless species roughly turkey sized, and was the most widespread moa, present in forest throughout the North and South Islands of New Zealand. This moa would have browsed on tough plant material and twigs. The primary cause of extinction for these moa were overhunting by humans for food.
